SM - S1

Overview

The team is currently working on its third project SM-S1 (SolarMobil-Series 1). The next car is intended to be a four seat family solar passenger car with improved performance and safety standards. The team intends to create a road legal car. SM-S1 will be launched in Manipal in the presence of our proud sponsors and University as well as Institution dignitaries.

SERVe

Overview

SERVe (Solar Electric Road Vehicle) is a two seat, four wheeler solar electric passenger car. It has one door on either side. The top is covered by a curved solar panel which powers the battery pack; which in turn runs the motor. The solar car is capable of a top speed of 45 kmph and has a range of about 100 km.

Key Features

SERVe is India’s first passenger solar electric vehicle which uses clean and free fuel with zero emissions and zero noise pollution. It is built with AISI 4130 Chromoly steel chassis which gives it high strength to weight ratio and GFRP body making it lightweight. It has an aerodynamic and aesthetic design obtained from the cut section of a tear drop- the most aerodynamic shape. The coefficient of drag is 0.28. Curved solar panels are used with a 6m2 area for increased energy generation at 20% efficiency. Focus is laid on improved driver ergonomics. Further, the car is energy positive.

SolarMobil Manipal is proud to announce that our team has been declared winners of the prestigious QuEST Global’s annual pan-India innovation contest – QuEST Ingenium 2015.
Among the shortlisted 10 teams, SolarMobil from Manipal Institute of Technology was adjudged as the winning team for our car SERVe (Solar Electric Road Vehicle). Besides an enticing cash prize, SolarMobil team members have been sponsored by Airbus to fly to Europe on a facility tour of its Stade & Bremen facility in Germany.

SERVe secured the 3rd Place Prize at CII India Innovation Challenge amongst 1500 entries in 2014. The competition was fierce and SolarMobil emerged as one of the winners. The CII India Innovation Initiative Challenge seeks to promote entrepreneurship in the country by sensitizing, encouraging and facilitating innovators for commercialization of their innovations.

Freyr-1

Overview

FREYR-1 was SolarMobil’s first car. The car marked the inception of the student collective project -SolarMobil in 2011. The aim of the project was to revolutionize the automobile industry by showcasing the potential of solar energy in powering vehicles as a viable option as opposed to fossil fuels. The designing , manufacturing and assembly of the car was carried out in-house by the SolarMobil team. FREYR-1 is a single seat, three wheel solar racing car.

Key Features

FREYR-1 was developed as a solar racing car which uses clean and free fuel with zero emissions and zero noise pollution. It is built with AISI 4130 Chromoly steel chassis which gives it high strength to weight ratio and Fibre Reinforced Plastic body making it lightweight. The solar panels with a 6m2 area constitute the top of the car. The car adheres to World Solar Challenge specifications and belongs to the ‘Adventure Class’ category of solar vehicles.
